Argo is a historical drama thriller based on the book by The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) centering operative agent Tony Mendez, a.k.a The Master of Disguise. The movie deals with the “Canadian Caper” during the 1980’s Iran Hostage Crisis, in which Tony Mendez rescues six diplomats of the United States, working at the Iran Embassy.

The Movie begins in 1979, when Iranians wreak havoc at The United States Embassy In Tehran, against the United States President order for giving an asylum for then Shah of Iran and take 60 US diplomats as hostages. Of these 6 diplomats manage an escape and take shelter in the home of the then Canadian ambassador to Iranian’s house. No one except the CIA and the Ambassador knows about the six diplomats’ secret stay.
So, back in the United States, Tony Mendez (US CIA specialist), gets to know about the situation. He blatantly rejects all the suggested rescue plans and decides on rescuing the diplomats by the reason for film production. Mendez then contacts John Chambers, the then popular Hollywood artist. They are aided by Lester Siegel where he served as a Producer. They then begin to advertise and publicize the film naming it Argo.

On the contrary in Tehran, the situation grows chaotic as Iranians decide to put down anyone who seemed suspicious making the diplomats more unsettled. That is when Mendez enters Iran, as the film producer with an alter ego. The real questions now here are; How does he face the Iranians? What strategies does he make to get them out of there? Watch it to unveil all the answers.
This movie didn’t deviate much from being historically relatable and it did receive a high critical appreciation for its historical accuracies apart from some parts like the Lester Siegel character, the movie’s name and the flight they escape in which were a part of the director’s creativity.
Ben Affleck who was the Actor, Director and Producer received praise for all his roles. The film indeed also was critically acclaimed for its decent editing and background score. This film received many awards including Seven Nominations at 85th Academy Awards winning Three Including Best Picture for Affleck.
